NFL Rookie Review...Review: Fantasy Football Finishes 2024

Frank Laury & John Hickey Season 4 Episode 36

Send us a text

The highly anticipated Rookie Review... Review episode has arrived, wrapping Season 4 with our deep analysis of how this year's rookie class performed against our preseason predictions.

The standout revelation? Jayden Daniels dominated as predicted, finishing as QB6 overall with 367 fantasy points – the best rookie QB season ever. His innovative approach to preparation, including using VR at accelerated speeds to improve decision-making, translated directly to on-field success in Washington. With Deebo Samuel joining the mix, Daniels could challenge the fantasy elite in 2025, though CJ Stroud's sophomore slump serves as a cautionary tale.

Bo Nix shocked everyone by finishing QB8 despite Sean Payton's notoriously complex offensive system, while Brian Thomas Jr. lived up to our bold Julio Jones comparison, finishing as WR4 despite Jacksonville's quarterback instability. Perhaps our most satisfying hit was Ladd McConkey, whom we compared to Antonio Brown primarily for his route running – he delivered WR14 numbers despite early skepticism from listeners.

Brock Bowers validated our George Kittle comparison by finishing as TE1, defying the traditional tight end development curve. Meanwhile, Marvin Harrison Jr. underwhelmed relative to his consensus WR1 status, showing the unpredictability of rookie transitions.

Looking ahead, we anticipate significant jumps from several rookies. Caleb Williams should benefit from Chicago's offensive line additions and Ben Johnson's coaching, while Rome Odunze could emerge as a flex-worthy option. Drake Maye showed promise and now has the roster investment to potentially take a leap forward under Mike Vrabel.

Frankie, my friend, how you feeling, brother?

Speaker 2:

Feeling good, feeling sad, feeling excited for the new coming season, feeling sad that this season's over. We had a hell of a year, john. I mean, we did an incredible year.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we did Season four Wrapping up season four. John. I mean, we did an incredible year. Yeah, we did Season four wrapping up season four. Man, it's amazing to be able to do this again.

Speaker 1:

Frankie and I started this thing during COVID. We're like, hey, man, we talk about fantasy football every goddamn day with each other. Why don't we start a podcast? So we just started a podcast.

Speaker 1:

You look back at some of those, those earlier seasons, man, rough, real rough, hey, and I know it's rough now. So I know we're not tooting our own horn, but we continue to get better. Frank and I will make mistakes, Absolutely. We won't make the same mistakes twice, and every year we're going to get better and better, and we've already talked about some of the changes and things we're going to do for next year. So I'm super excited, man, but let's wrap things up in a tight little bow this year and let's get it done. I hope you all enjoyed the year.

Speaker 1:

In review, we did the top rankings, top 24 and top 12 of quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, tight ends. Go back and look at those episode guides. Those are going to be good for you getting ready for next year. So we'll get those out again in June or July just to give you a little taste, get you a little bit excited. And then next year we're going to be kicking back up after the 4th of July with some great content. We're going to do our new faces and new places, our rookie review. We're going to give you all the information you're going to need for your upcoming draft. So stay tuned for next year during the off season as well. Keep with us guys on TikTok and on Instagram and Facebook. We're going to constantly be putting content out there. We're going to keep you up to date on what's happening on some of the free agent pickups here, signings. We're going to talk a little bit about the draft. We get a lot of good info and a lot of funny shit out there too, on Instagram and TikTok. So keep an eye on us guys in the off season.

Speaker 1:

All right, frankie, let's go. Man, let's get after this. All right, episode one of season four we did our rookie review. We talked about some of these guys coming in. We had some big hitters this year, man, really really good rookies. So what we're going to do now is we're going to take a look at top 13 guys here, starting from 13, ending at number one. We've got them ranked in how many fantasy points they finished with and we're going to talk a little bit about each guy. Let's start with number 13 here. Frank, we've got Rome Rome Adunze wide receiver for the Chicago Bears rookie 115 fantasy points finished outside of the top 30. Talk to me a little bit about Rome, where you think first of all, what we thought of him in the beginning of the top 30. Talk to me a little bit about Rome, where you think first of all what we thought of him in the beginning of the season, where he ended up here and what we're looking at moving forward with Rome.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, guys, rome, he didn't have a terrible rookie season Again when we had talked about in the rookie review what he was stacked up against. We mentioned Keenan Allen, we mentioned DJ Moore, we mentioned he had another rookie quarterback throwing him the ball, in addition to them adding DeAndre Swift and they're already having Cole Komet. There were a lot of mouths to feed. So we really said, hey, in order for him to really break through, keenan Allen needs to get hurt, right, or somebody needs to like really be down and out for Rome to kind of step up and the games that a few of the guys were banged up, we saw Rome really bust through. And what's cool, man, is we actually had Rome at number 10 and all the rookies we really had him at number 10 for him to finish number 13. We're going to say that was a push and actually it was pretty damn spot on John.

Speaker 2:

One of the other really cool things is well, who did I see Roma Dunzay looking like and who did we really think Roma Dunzay's comp was going into his NFL season, his first NFL season? And for me, man, that was Andre Johnson. And yes, I'm throwing out a Hall of Famer, but it was true. A lot of the things that Rome did really well. His rookie year really did provide glimpses of Andre Johnson and Andre Johnson's rookie year. He actually had 160 fantasy points and half PPR. Roma Dunzey finished 115 with all these mouths to feed. So for me I think that that was a great comp. I think we borderline really hit the nail on the head. I'm going to say it's a neutral, but we really were right there, um kind of hitting where we thought Roman Dunesay would be.

Speaker 1:

Well, it's going to be interesting. I mean, you've got some coaching changes there Big time. Um, we overestimated a tad Caleb Williams and we certainly overestimated that offensive line Big time. It was bad. Okay that that had a big effect on Caleb Williams and his ability to be able to get the ball to Roma Dunzay. But yeah, we weren't. We weren't expecting Roma Dunzay to be a high draft pick. We weren't expecting him to have a monster season again because of the mouths how many mouths they had to feed in that offense. Now I you're not going to see Keenan Allen there, most likely this year. So I think it's going to give more opportunity for Rome. I really like Rome this year. I think this year Rome should be able to provide you solid flex appeal. Remember the flex appeal? You know what I need to hear that at the end of the season here, flex appeal. That's a blast from the past. I missed that one Good man, all right, but I think he'll be able to provide that for you for next year and john.

Speaker 2:

To that point real quick, guys remember. Ben johnson is the head coach now for the bears. Look at what ben johnson did for the number two receiver in jameson williams. Watch rome really evolve, assuming keenan allen is no longer there. And to your point on the offensive lineman. Guess what the Bears went out and did? They made a trade for two of the best offensive linemen in the NFL for free agency. Got them both, one being Joe Tooney from that of the Chiefs. They got him coming over. This offensive line looks good man.

Speaker 1:

That's huge. That's huge. All right, let's go to the next guy here, number 12. Oh man, this guy hit all of us. You know, frank, we could say we could say we took it on the chin with this guy, uh, because we had him as our number one. But uh, everybody did as well, frank, yeah, everybody did as well and definitely did not perform to that. I'm talking about marv, baby marvin harrison jr 153 fantasy points finished outside of the top 30. Really, really shocking there. Talk to us about Marv. What happened there?

Speaker 2:

Guys, it was kind of touch and go. I mean it almost, if I'm being honest, almost seemed like there was something off in the connection between him and Kyler. I mean shit, john, we were even talking about top stacks and we had them as a top five stack, top six stack in the NFL, because they all they had was Michael Wilson right, really, and and what. And Greg Dorch and really Trey McBride, but outside of that there was no other clear cut, decent receiver or receiving option, really outside of Trey McBride. And so I thought this was a grand slam. But what's interesting, man, is when we look at the comp so yes, we missed everybody missed Marv, underperformed in regards to where everyone had him, but our comp to him was CeeDee Lamb. Now, when we look back at what CeeDee Lamb did in his rookie year, he had 182 fantasy points in half PPR Marv had 153. That really wasn't that far off from what CeeDee Lamb did. And then you go back and look at the tape. Man, kyler missed him on a few touchdowns. I mean they were wide open touchdowns. He also didn't even look his way in certain parts of the season and it didn't make sense.

Speaker 2:

And so for me, man, I think that this is only going to get better for Marv. I think that Kyler and Marv, now that they have a season under their belt, they're going to start figuring it out. I don't know if I'm willing to put them yet again as a top five stack. I'll be honest with you, I think I'm going to stray away from that in 2025. But 25, but looking at where we had him to comp with CD lamb, and again, what CD lamb did with 182 fantasy points his rookie year man I think we really hit the nail on the head from that standpoint. But again, us, along with everyone else, we had Marv number one. He finished 12. We'll take it on the chin and we'll keep rocking.

Speaker 1:

That's right. That's right. All right, let's look at number 11 here. Matt, this guy did come out of left field and he was wonderful. I had him as my RB2 and just to be able to plug him in all season long was beautiful. Tyrone Tracy, rookie running back for the New York football giants 157 points finished as a running back, 27. Frankie talked to me about my boy, tyrone.

Speaker 2:

Oh, this one. I mean, it warms my heart that he's there and also makes me sick to my stomach, because this is a guy, john, that I talked to you and I'm like man, I'm really fucking up not putting him in the top 12. I knew it, I knew it. We had Trey Benson in the top 12, which, again, he was our number 12. Missed on that Right.

Speaker 2:

But Tracy man was going to be in our honorable mentions, which was really cool, and I saw this guy coming from a mile away, john. He was a stud at Purdue, was a receiver, converted to a running back and he had Devin Singletary in front of him at the Giants. When the Giants realized Devin Singletary is not getting it done, let's give this rookie a shot. And it exploded. So, guys, looking ahead into 2025, tyrone Tracy has to be on your radar when the Giants get.

Speaker 2:

Whether it's Aaron Rodgers hot, take, aaron Rodgers could be a New York Giant. Whether it's they draft a rookie quarterback, maybe they go for a Sam Darnold right, something along those lines, even though it kind of seems like Sam Darnold might be a Seattle Seahawk. We don't know yet. But again, right, they're going to improve the quarterback situation. They already have Malik neighbors. They have the third overall draft pick in the 2025 NFL draft. They're only going to get better. So for me, man Tyrone Tracy needs to be on everyone's radar and should only improve from running back 27. John, he could crack the top 20 running backs this year.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely. I mean, looking at his game log, it's hilarious. The first four weeks Devin Singletary was the starter. Didn't take long for Tyrone to take that job over. But the first four weeks he had two yards, two yards, 23 yards and two yards. He gets the job, gets the nod on the road, busts out 129 yards, 50 yards, 145 yards, 103. He had a good year, man. I mean he really really had a good season. You take those four weeks out and look at his averages and he's way higher than that. I mean he's practically a high-end RB2 at that point. So yeah, tyrone Tracy was fantastic Going into the draft.

Speaker 1:

I think he's a wonderful RB2 piece for you. Again, you can get him fifth, sixth, fourth, fifth, sixth round, something like that. I think it's a guy you can absolutely plug in and not have to worry about. Man, I really really like him. All right Sounds good. Let's move on here to number 10, xavier Worthy, the X-Man 159 points, two points above Tyrone Tracy. Finished as the wide receiver, 29. Now, I know he wasn't technically a starting running back for you, but Xavier Worthy certainly had his weeks on being flex and the flex appeal, flex appeal, yeah. So talk to me a little bit about Xavier Worthy man. I'm more interested, Frankie, in what are we doing with him next year.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man. So Xavier Worthy guys again finished as receiver 29. Really good job from a rookie perspective. Our comp to him. John, and we nailed this right. We ended up having him at number seven. He ended up coming in at number 10.

Speaker 1:

That's really really good, right?

Speaker 2:

And then our comp was Santana Moss Pulled it from deep baby and let me tell you there was a lot of comp to that. There was a lot of similar tape man when we saw him take a pitch or when we saw him just sprint down the field or take a post or a corner route for 45 plus yards. That is what Santana did and that is what Xavier Worthy, where he thrived. Now, when you ask me, what do we do with Xavier Worthy next year, guys, he's already running into some legal issues. I don't know what's in the water over there with some of those chiefs players. I mean, you look at Hollywood Brown right Ended up getting in trouble, going, I think, 126 miles an hour and getting busted. And then we all know what happened with Rasheed Rice. That dude was in hot water for a while and now this and you had Tyreek there before you know uh uh Kadarius Kadarius.

Speaker 1:

Tony. So, whatever's going on, they need to chill, it's that? It's that pittsburgh stealer receiver waters? What's going on there? Yeah, they must have the same water boys, or something, oh man but for me, guys, this is something that's really interesting.

Speaker 2:

I think that I'm actually tempering expectations. I am I'm not willing to say he's off my board, john, but we didn't see him play with Rasheed Rice. Okay, rasheed Rice got hurt, we. We saw him play with a very old kind of and I love D hop, but he's older guy, he's probably not going to be a chief next year. We don't know what's going to happen with Hollywood Brown. So the reality is it's going to be X is their number two, rasheed Rice is their number one, and so for me, man, I don't know how this is going to pan out.

Speaker 2:

I thought with Hollywood Brown and Dehop he would actually be better than what he was, if I'm being completely honest with you, because I thought they would take away a lot of the pressure from him and he was just okay earlier in the season and then really came on towards the end. But I'm not sure if I'm going to draft him this year. Man, I drafted him this past year and it was kind of miserable. I actually traded him pretty quickly. So for me, I'm not willing to say he's off my board, but I'm going to need to get really good value.

Speaker 2:

Last year he was targeted. His ADP was right around round six, round seven, moving in. This year if I can get him still in that kind of round seven mark then I think that that's fair. I year if I can get him still in that kind of round seven mark then I think that that's fair. I'll be willing to take him If he starts moving up even more than that. If we're looking at round five round, maybe end of four, I'm pulling away. It's too rich for my blood and I think that there's elsewhere where I can get a bit more value.

Speaker 1:

I'm with you on that. I mean those kinds of guys. I see him as a gadget player. Yeah, I really do. I know that's a terrible description and I don't want to take away from his gameplay or anything. But it kind of reminds me of, like a Debo Samuel and I know they're not the same build or anything. But I'm saying in that slot receiver, you know, taking the roof off or doing the gadget plays, doing the end of rounds, rushing the ball, it's just not something you can plan on. You can't predict his touches, let alone if they're going to be super high quality touches, you know. So I just don't like that on my team. It's too difficult. You have to catch lightning in a bottle. Listen, man, you're never going to predict when that's going to happen ever. You just won't. All right, let's move on here. Let's go to number nine and we got a quarterback here Drake May. Quarterback for the New England Patriots 177 fantasy points, finished as a QB 23. Talk to me a little bit about Drake.

Speaker 2:

May, frankie. Yeah, man, we actually didn't even have Drake May in our top 10 or even in our top 12. And the reason for that was because, if you remember, jacoby Brissett was the starter. They didn't even really want to have to play Drake May and, in addition, they didn't have the pieces around him to really be super, super critical and effective. And here, when Drake May came in and actually I believe he came in starting in week six, john, he performed pretty damn well. You got to give the kid his flowers. And now that we saw, I mean, ramondre Stevenson, we were like, well, maybe he could help out. He was terrible. Set Ramondre to the side right. Antonio Gibson was nothing really, I mean outside of Hunter Henry. That kind of gave him that cozy blanket. The receiving room was pathetic. So, man moving forward, I am actually high on Drake May, and here's why Brand new coach coming into the fold here, which we love to see in that of I'll help you out.

Speaker 1:

Thank you, Mike Vrabel.

Speaker 2:

And so love Vrabel. We know he's a run first type of coach which helps open up the ability to throw the ball. In addition, they have the most cap space heading into this offseason John by a lot, and they have the fourth overall pick. They get a receiver. They get a couple free agents. Apparently, word on the street is that DK Metcalf is a huge possibility for that of the Patriots, and so is potentially Devontae Adams.

Speaker 2:

If they were to get either of those guys, drake May skyrockets. I think he skyrockets. He gets his guy, he gets his number one alpha. What we saw is the dude is tenacious. We saw the leadership in him. We saw the offense actually lift from Jacoby Brissett, which I actually thought was kind of shocking, if I'm being honest with you, because Jacoby's not a bad quarterback, he's just a very game manager type of quarterback. But Drake May's rushing is what was shocking to me. And so, man, when we look at the landscape for next year, especially in two quarterback leagues, guys, you can get Drake May for phenomenal value as your second quarterback. Lock that in.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, the numbers are a little skewed with him just because he didn't come on until week set or week six, you know. But when he did he only had three games under 200 yards. I mean he actually played really well in a stats look pretty damn good 15 touchdowns as well. So, yeah, I mean as far as next year. Now again, I'm not expecting him to be next year's Jaden Daniels by any means. They just don't have the talent on the team, but next year's Jaden Daniels by any means. They just don't have the talent on the team. But they will increase that talent. That team will get better. They do have a guy now that they can build around. Next year.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to say it Drake May would be a wonderful QB, too Awesome. If you're in a super flex or you're in a two QB league, drake May would be my target for that second QB. I just think it'll give you a solid floor. He had three or four games over 20 points, but he had another three or four that hovered right around that 20 mark. You know 18, 19 points, 17 points that's great. That's what you want in your QB too. It's not going to give you those giant boner weeks, but he's going to give you that consistency at a level that you want. That's right around those 20 points. So I love that man. Good things to come, I think, for Drake May in the future.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's get to number eight. This guy we've talked about a lot. Frankie, we did do a video on this guy. We did talk about him in our rookie review. We just talked about him in the receiver top 24 as well. Spoiler alert he finished in the top 24. Number eight it's Ladd McConkie. Ladd, our boy. 189 fantasy points, by the way, 12 points higher than Drake May, who is a quarterback. Pretty impressive. Yeah, ladd McConkie finished as the wide receiver 14 overall.

Speaker 2:

Wow, great year out proud of us. We really put in the work. We saw this coming. There was a lot of people that were like I think you guys are overvaluing Laddie. I knew it, man. I saw we watched so much tape on him from Georgia and what's interesting is he actually didn't have that great of a senior year at Georgia. Right, he only had, I think. I think he had less than 500 yards receiving.

Speaker 2:

And so for me, man, like when we look at where we had him ranked, we actually had him fourth overall. For him to finish eighth is incredible. My comp and our comp to him was actually Antonio Brown and it was strictly due to his route running. And when you look at the videos that we have on the route running with Antonio Brown and you look what Ladd McConkie did this past year, my Lord man, it was so solid. And so for me, looking at where Laddy is for 2025, number one is Chargers need a true alpha number one. That is where I see Laddy, then, being a true number two, coming in and even doing better than what he did this past year. Think of Mike Evans to that of Chris Godwin. Chargers are missing a Mike Evans and Laddy is the Chris Godwin. Both can dominate or be dominant. Chris Godwin, technically, was a better point per game player in fantasy football than that of Mike Evans was, but it's just the makeup and construction of the actual archetype of the player, right? We're talking about a big X player versus a Z or a slot, right? That's what I'm referring to. So for me, man guys, you need to be targeting Laddie next year.

Speaker 2:

What we saw this year with Justin Herbert was nothing short of incredible to that of Laddie. Even with Laddie being banged up and them having really some issues on the offensive line perspective, that's going to get better. Rashawn Slater is going to be back. We got Joey Ault, who they drafted last year as a rookie who performed extremely well at the tackle position. They're going to really continue to bolster this man. I'm beating the drum, I'm beating the desk right now. Take Laddie, and even if you've got to reach a little bit, man, I still think that he's the guy that you can really solidify your receiver to with. And God, if you can get him as a flex piece. My Lord, if you go, zero RB strat, the dominant dominance is what your team could look like.

Speaker 1:

I remember when we did the rookie review, I didn't know shit about Ladd McConkie. I had to sit down with you and look at tape and and and go through all your notes and everything. And I go Frankie, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. Am I reading this notes? Right? I was like you're comparing this little white guy, this rookie looks like he's 12 years old If you pull his picture up, by the way he really does.

Speaker 1:

And I go wait a second. You're comparing him to Antonio Brown. I'm like dude, we're going to get killed on this. You better be fucking right, man, dude. Kudos to you, cause you nailed it I. That's one of the more shocking ones to me, that you compared Ladd McConkie to Antonio Brown, and sure as shit, all year long he looked like it, john and I just looked at the stats. He did His route. Running was superb.

Speaker 2:

Dude. It was crazy and I looked at his correct in his senior year he had 30 receptions, 478 yards, two touchdowns and nine games with georgia and we fucking called it yeah, ends up with 85 receptions for 1100 yards and seven touchdowns in the nfl's rookie season.

Speaker 1:

Well done, brother. That's why uh, that's why you got a podcast, my friend. All right, let's get to number seven here. Man, this guy, we've talked about a lot. We just did on our last tight end episode. We're talking about brock, motherfucking bowers 197 fantasy points. Man finished as the tight end one. Just a great rookie season. How fun. Talk to me, who was your comp for Brock? What'd you say in the last video for Brock? Were you saying, hey guys, let's take it easy. This is a tight end. They take time to develop. I don't think that's what you said.

Speaker 2:

No, absolutely not. I said fire his ass up, draft him where you can. This dude's a superstar, john, we had him listed at number three on our list and it did not disappoint guys, it did not disappoint. Sure, quarterbacks and things like that are going to skew things after the season right, they're always going to have more points, but really I'm trying to say he was one of the most bona fide superstars coming out of this draft and we called it man, this dude. His comp was georgeittle. You can't tell me that. Who was number two on the list, next right behind that of Brock Bowers? It was George Kittle.

Speaker 1:

My Lord man.

Speaker 2:

I mean this dude. Again, the offense is going to be changing. So yeah, man. So, with that being said, I really believe that, moving forward, the Raiders have something there. Now, again, things are going to change a bit. Right, we have Gino Smith, as we mentioned in the tight ends episode when we were talking about Brock Bowers. Geno Smith is now the quarterback. Pete Carroll is now the head coach. Right, they're going to be more of a run first type of team. That's just what Pete Carroll does. So, yes, level set expectation next year. He might not be tight end, one shit, he might not even be top three, but the dude is going to be a top 10, a top 7 type of tight end. I just see it unfolding that way. So hell of a job, brock Bowers, and tip of the cap to us for for really nailing that one yeah, all right, all right.

Speaker 1:

Number six this one was fun, man. This was a guy I tried to get him in every single draft I was in. I talk about him too much. I have a podcast. Everybody knows who I fucking love and who I don't. I can't even hide anybody. I can't hold anybody close to my chest. Here it was Malik Neighbors. I wanted him in every draft. The guy before me knew that took him right in front of me in every league I was in. Yeah, but Malik Neighbors, man, what a great year. He had 207 fantasy points finished as the wide receiver seven. Love that man. Talk to us about Malik Neighbors.

Speaker 2:

I mean Malik, neighbors dominate. I mean just his target share alone was insane, was insane, and the people throwing him the ball couldn't have been worse. You had Daniel Jones, you had Drew Locke and you had Tommy DeVito right Tommy Cutler.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, and he's still balled out and was still receiver seven as a rookie Guys, he's only going to get better, right, and he is a guy that absolutely is going to go top two rounds. He's going to be in the top two rounds. If you think, if you're back half a one and you're sitting there and you're like I fully believe if Aaron Rodgers comes on board or whoever it is from a quarterback perspective, comes on board and you're like, yeah, he's going to be the guy. Nobody's going to talk shit because Malik neighbors has that true receiver. I mean, he has top five receiver written all over him. If he actually can score some touchdowns, it's not the receptions, that's the issue, it's not the targets, it's truly the touchdown difference from a lot of these other guys.

Speaker 2:

Now, our comp to him was Brandon Ayuk and when we look at Brandon or, excuse me, our comp to him was Brandon Ayuk with a Jamar Chase ceiling and I wanted to make sure I called that out and it was so smart that we said that, john, because the reason why I said his ceiling was because I thought Jamar Chase could be a triple crown winner. Jamar Chase won the triple crown and Malik Neighbors has the ability to do that. We saw the receptions. We saw him in his rookie year from a receiving yards perspective. Now he just needs the touchdowns to go with it. So for me, man Brandon Iyuk had 157 points his rookie year. I said that was a pretty similar comp. We could probably get over that. And he did with 207 fantasy points.

Speaker 1:

Well done, malik Neighbors. It's not going to matter what quarterback he has, because we've seen that already. He's already played with shit quarterbacked. So we know that quarterback play for next year most certainly will be better than what he's had, which means it'll get them in a better position to score. They'll be in the red zone more often. That will increase his touchdowns. It wasn't because of lack his talent or anything else, just they weren't in the fucking red zone very often so he couldn't get the touchdown. But yeah, malik neighbors is going to go.

Speaker 1:

I don't really look at ADPs or anything right now. It's pointless. We haven't even had the draft yet. There's free agencies just getting kicked off. I'm imagining Malik neighbors is going to be at the turn. Yeah, finishing a wide receiver seven like that. He's going to be, you know, ranked as a top 10 guy most likely. So I'm thinking he's going to be right about at the turn, right where we basically took Marvin Harrison last year. You know, and I think that's going to be totally justified. Jump all over him, take him. He's young, you're absolutely right. He's got a Jamar Chase ceiling and we can see what he can do with that next year. I mean, they're going to have a little bit better talent on that team, but nothing that can take away from him, which is the nice part.

Speaker 2:

John quick question, and this is a would you rather super early getting prepped? All right, let's go. Would you rather Garrett Wilson or Malik Neighbors? That is a real, viable decision that people are going to have to make.

Speaker 1:

Okay, now I'm making this decision when— Without knowing either quarterback situation quarterback. Yeah, either of those teams do not have a starting quarterback at the moment. Yeah, correct. They don't have another wide receiver too, nope. And they have what? Second, third year running. So that are good. That's tough, brother.

Speaker 2:

That's really, really tough people are going to be looking yeah, I think so too.

Speaker 1:

I um, I do think that I think Malik neighbors might have a bigger ceiling, maybe.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean, if Garrett Wilson's the alpha on the team, which he's absolutely capable of doing, I mean they could have very similar years. I mean you could see Garrett Wilson, depending on the quarterback they get in New York, have a last year year that Malik neighbors had. Yeah, Very possible. I don't. That's a tough one, that's a really tough one man. For some reason I feel like Malik Neighbors has a higher ceiling. I'm not sure if that's based on anything other than feeling and watching him play, but that's just kind of where I'm sitting.

Speaker 2:

It'll be fun to see the quarterback landscape. That's what will be fun.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, definitely, all right, let's keep going. Number five this guy man, god, we didn't even do a video on this guy, frank, because he came so far out of left field, out of nowhere, we had no idea he was going to be playing like he did and splitting time and getting as many carries as he did. Bucky Irving, what a damn year he had, man. What a year, bucky Irving, running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 210 points Three points more than Malik Nevers, by the way, which was awesome. He finished as the running back 15. Woo, all right, let's go Talk to me about Bucky.

Speaker 2:

Here's the reason why we didn't include him, john, is because I want to think back to Rashad White's 2023 year. Okay, rashad White in 2023 had 235.9 fantasy points and a half PPR Guys. That's absurd, that's nuts. That's more than Caleb Williams had, who we'll talk about here in a second, and he was the running back. He was doing everything out of the backfield, from the receiving perspective, rushing perspective, everything, excuse me. So with that, you bring in a rookie running back.

Speaker 2:

I was in my head. I'm like, dude, there's no way. Look at what Rashad White's been able to do and, my Lord, they became a two-headed tandem and it was truly. It's almost like we're seeing, if you have kind of this thunder and lightning, sonic and knuckles, whatever you want to call it, that's the route that a lot of these guys are going, because it's helping with the longevity of the running back itself and it's actually helping. I mean, you see, like Saquon Barkley getting paid and yet he might be an enigma, and same thing with Derrick Henry, because they're really not a tandem there. But but what I'm saying is these guys are now giving them opportunity. You look at Atlanta. It should be Bijan's show, but you got Tyler Algier, as I mentioned Jameer Gibbs with David Montgomery. You have all of these different tandems out there and it's really starting to become something. So for me, man, looking at what Bucky Irving did, it's nothing short of incredible, and I'm going to go as far to say sure, he finished running back 15. He's going to be an RB1. This year he will be a top 12 running back, assuming that everything stays the same.

Speaker 2:

They don't have Liam Cohen, who is the OC in Tampa Bay. He's now the head coach for the Jaguars. But what they do have is they do have Baker Mayfield. They do have a solid offensive line. They do still have Rashad White to help with some of that receiving out of the backfield, but they got Bucky Irving to really hit the stride and set the tone. One other callout we mentioned Chris Godwin is probably not going to be on the team, and so again, it's one less mouth to feed. We saw Jalen McMillan come on. We have Cade Otten there, all those good things, but again, what really made this offense go was running through Bucky Irving and letting bake do his thing. And so for me, man, I love Bucky Irving. Next year I think he's going to be phenomenal. I'm on the Bucky Irving train.

Speaker 1:

All right. Number four let's talk about some quarterbacks here. We let's talk about some quarterbacks here. We had some, uh, some big name rookie quarterbacks. We did do a video on this guy, caleb williams, quarterback for the chicago bears 217 points, seven points above bucky irving, by the way, that's surprising. That's finished as the quarterback. 18. All right, so not a starting quarterback, not a guy that helped you out really in fantasy. Um, you know, we talked about it a little bit before when we were talking fantasy. Um, you know, we we talked about it a little bit before when we were talking about Rome, of, you know, overestimating um Caleb a tad, but really overestimating that offensive line, and that's what held Caleb Williams back. Talk to me about him.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So for me, man, I we look back and when we were checking out Caleb Williams, there were a lot of people that like he's going to be the number one rookie. I didn't see it. For me, we actually had him listed at five and he finished at four, so we were pretty damn spot on. I mean, you can't get closer to that. And then, in addition, we also talked about, okay well, who was his comp and for us, his ability to get out of the pocket and make some incredible throws looked like Aaron Rodgers, but he had a little bit of mix of Kyler Murray and we saw that the issues were.

Speaker 2:

And I'm just going to say number one issue in my eyes was Matt Eberflus. I thought that that offense, the head coach, everything was wrong. It was just terrible. It just didn't work for what they were looking to do. And the interesting thing is, sure, Caleb Williams, he struggled a bit, but also, to your point, John, the offensive line was dog shit, Terrible. I mean, he was running for his life. He couldn't read the defense because he didn't have time half the time, and then, when he did, he was making quality throws. Actually, I think there's a stat out there TikTokers and YouTubers and all the Instagrammers out there check me on this. But I believe when he was in the red zone he had 13 touchdowns and no interceptions. That alone gives you confidence in what he has the ability to do.

Speaker 2:

Moving forward, the top two offensive linemen in free agency right, they already brought them on board. You have Roma Dunzay, you have the bona fide number one in DJ Moore, you have DeAndre Swift and damn it dude, with Ben Johnson there, I guarantee they're going to get a little bit of thunder to go with that lightning and that of DeAndre Swift to help take some of that burden off of Caleb Williams. So another running back. I love Caleb this year. Now do I love Caleb enough to say he's going to be a QB one? I don't know, I don't. I would lean probably there might be other options but I love him as a super flex, as a QB, to putting him in the same kind of realm with that of Drake May.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, I like that he's got his upside is massive, you know, and that's. It's a huge risk to take him as your QB one, uh, and if you're doing that, back it up with a solid, solid guy you can start with, cause you just don't know. I mean, things change. It is a new coach. He's a young quarterback. Now he's getting used to a second coach in his second year. That's, that's disruptive for quarterbacks, for young quarterbacks. Look at the we're browns fans. We see it every year. How many quarterbacks have we destroyed their careers? Every single one, yeah, exactly every single one. Yeah, yeah, so yeah, but I do think his upside is massive and if he, you know, they improve that offensive line. His talent's crazy. So, yeah, man, you could grab him as an rqb2 and he could have a year, like jayden daniels did year, but he could have it next year or the year after because of the way they're building this team. So, yeah, really, really interesting man, love it All. Right, let's go to number three here.

Speaker 1:

Baby, third rookie on the year, brian Thomas Jr 232 fantasy points, finished as the wide receiver for Frankie. This is a guy we were so proud of because we talked about him before anybody knew who the hell he was really. Our rookie review last year. We were all over him and we're like, we get done recording, we're like so you think he's going to be that good? Because I think he's going to be that good, are we going to be all right? Are we wrong? Dude, we were right, you nailed it. Brother, tell me what you nailed.

Speaker 2:

We were so right, guys. Brian Thomas Jr, coming out of college, had the most touchdowns in college. In all of the FBS he had the most touchdowns at 17, even over his teammate Malik Neighbors. We knew he was going to be incredible. We knew when Jacksonville drafted him I believe in 20 or whatever it was that he was going to come in and have potential to immediately make an impact. They had Christian Kirk, right. They had that of Gabe Davis. They paid and brought him in. You have Evan Ingram, you had Travis Etienne and then you also had Tank Bigsby.

Speaker 2:

There were a lot of things going on, but, john, my comp to him was Julio Jones and I'll never forget I had a guy DM me and said I was full of shit, that I had no idea what I was talking about, that it was Julio. He's a Hall of Famer, all that stuff. I agree, julio's a Hall of Famer. But what I disagree with is everything else. Because, baby, he finished number four as a receiver, as a rookie, in a terrible team with Trevor Lawrence playing at half-mast, and then ends up getting out for season and he still did what he did, my Lord. Now they have a fresh new slate. They have no Christian Kirk. They have no Evan Ingram. You have Gabe Davis to help take the top off.

Speaker 2:

And so now, man, when you look at the potential of a healthy Trevor Lawrence and no other really person to take targets away, john, we could see Brian Thomas Jr replicate what he did once more. He could truly be another top seven kind of guy this year and not have a sophomore slump with what we've seen with some other guys. Right, when they get to that sophomore year, they have a lot more, or second season, they have a lot of defensive, a lot more tape on them, they know the movements, they know the routes, they know if they're sticking in they're going to go out, whatever it may be. But this is a guy that you can put in a little asterisk next to because of his size, his stature, his speed. And then where you always say, john, where talent meets opportunity, that opportunity mark is huge. Fire up, brian Thomas. If you have a keeper league, you probably drafted him late. Keep the shit out of this dude and enjoy.

Speaker 1:

I love how much you love Brian Thomas.

Speaker 2:

I love him.

Speaker 1:

I don't have anything else to say because I agree with you 100%. All right, let's go to number two. This guy, huge surprise man. I love this guy, Loved watching him play, I love the way he plays and I think his prospects moving forward are just through the roof. Man, Bo Nix, quarterback for the Denver Broncos, 322 fantasy points, finished as the QB8. How about that? He's a top 10 quarterback. Talk to me about Bo Nix man.

Speaker 2:

I mean Cinderella story. That's what this was for Bo Nix. Guys in college we saw him play at Auburn, we saw him do really well his freshman year taper off. Then he went to Oregon right, because that's where his family went and there are things like that and he just felt that connection. And so for me, man, it was so cool to then see him get drafted, denver traded up to get him getting him pairing him with Sean Payton, and my hesitation the reason why we didn't list him John was because Sean Payton's offense is one of the most difficult to learn.

Speaker 2:

If you actually go, it's up there with Gruden. If you're an X is an O type of guy. You listen to the cadences. It's absurd, it's, it's, it's seriously something. It's it's impossible to actually understand. And Bo Nix, it took him five weeks, six weeks and he it clicked. And what he has the ability to do now with Sean Payton they have Cortland Sutton who again revitalized John. That was another thing we were saying, hey, there's not enough talent around this dude to really help get him where he needs to be as a rookie. And here Sean Payton made it happen. Cortland Sutton looked like a bona fide number one.

Speaker 2:

You had Troy Franklin, who was a rookie receiver as well, who came and played with Bo Nix in Oregon, who came and showed flashes. And then, the big surprise of it, all man was Marvin Mims Jr, a guy who literally was getting written off. They didn't think that. Nobody thought he was going to be worth a damn and Bo Nix was able to make it happen. Bo Nix having 322 fantasy points was incredible, but the coolest part was his rushing capability. Everything that what we're seeing in the NFL, outside of maybe a few Jared Goff, joe Burrow, et cetera is a dual threat quarterback. Bo Nix is a true dual threat quarterback. Watch what happens when they get him a stud running back he hasn't had one and watch what happens when they get him another piece man. If they get him a solid tight end, this dude could be right around where he was last time. I love it. Bo Nix could again be a true number one quarterback this year.

Speaker 1:

I can't wait to see what he can do next year If they can get some more talent around the team if they kind of stay status quo.

Speaker 1:

I'm not really going to touch him Again in a super flex. Love him With the rushing floor, rushing floor, all of. He's actually probably my number one target if, if you know, in a two quarterback super flex league, if I can get him as my super flex, I am so happy, so happy. But I'll be hesitant if they don't add talent to put him as a quarterback one next year. I will be. I think he's going to hover right around that range, but without some more, an additional piece or two on that offense for him, I think it will be. I think he's going to hover right around that range, but without some more an additional piece or two on that offense for him, I think it will be a struggle.

Speaker 1:

You know, sometimes, you see, people don't have tape on a guy or they don't know how to handle him quite yet because he can run and throw. And you know, sean Payton's a goddamn genius. I mean, he just is Brilliant. So how much of that was Sean Payton willing these stats onto him too. So I am careful. I love him, but I'm careful until I see some other pieces added to it I'm not going to rely on him as my single quarterback. All right, let's move up here to number one. Number one with a bullet baby. Yeah, this guy was so much fun, man, I put my money where my mouth was and drafted him everywhere I could Jaden Daniels sensation rookie sensation out of the Washington commanders Talk to. Could Jaden Daniels sensation rookie sensation out of the Washington Commanders Talk to me about Jaden Daniels, man, I mean, what a season.

Speaker 2:

Unbelievable Finished QB6. Guys finished QB6 as a rookie, had the best rookie season anybody has ever seen. Guys, he had 367 fantasy points, willingly led that commander's team, who was dog shit the year before, right, that's why they were able to draft him to a playoff berth. I mean, my god, it was incredible what he was able to do. And now, john, you're telling me hmm, we had debo samuel. Hmm, we're going to improve this even a bit more. Hmm, we might add a couple different pieces on the defense to really help from a ball security perspective. That way, you're giving the offense better chances and ways to milk the clock even more to win games. Guys, these are things that are happening with the commanders and, my lord, that head coach and Dan Quinn, just the team. You can feel it. The team is bought in, they love it, they trust Jaden Daniels is so fun to watch. What's cool is we certainly had him on our top and we actually had him at number six overall, right. And so what was really fascinating with man and I think everybody kind of agreed with this I said the comp was Lamar Jackson, and I don't think anybody really disagreed with it. Right, I said he might be a little slightly slower than Lamar, which did kind of come to fruition, but it was right there, man. And so for me, what do we do with Jaden Daniels moving forward right now that all these teams have additional tape on him? Will we see a sophomore slump like what we saw from that of CJ Stroud to now? We're going to see that with Jaden Daniels. We could. It's very possible.

Speaker 2:

Nobody really thought that Jaden Daniel or the CJ Stroud fall off was going to happen, and it fell. It fell hard. I mean we're talking. He was QB five walking into the year CJ Stroud and felt I think QB 18, 19 or 20 or something like that. Um, actually no, it wasn't 18 cause Caleb Williams was 18. Or 20 or something like that. Actually, no, it wasn't 18 because Caleb Williams was 18. So it was something even worse. Maybe he was 19. But yeah, man, so I'm really bullish still, though, on Jayden Daniels, and the reason being is because it's a bit different of a quarterback. He's a higher floor because of his rushing capability. He has a bit different offensive scheme than that of CJ Stroud. But again, there's a little part of me, john. Am I, am I overthinking this? There's a little part of me that not at all.

Speaker 1:

I mean, think about it. Well, of course, think about it. I mean, CJ Stroud made us all realize that. Because you know, you ended up drafting CJ Stroud and like second, third, fourth round, something like that, and it killed you. It killed you and you look at it and go, oh my God, he was. I mean, he had an insane rookie season and came on. Now they add Stefan Diggs. He's going to be insane. Same thing with Jaden Daniels. Now they're adding Debo Samuel. You're like, oh my God, he's going to be insane.

Speaker 1:

There's just so many variables, there's so many things. Yeah, I mean, as of right now, of course I'm all over, but yeah, I'm going to be thinking about that. I'm going to have CJ Stroud's you know sophomore slump in the back of my mind when I'm drafting. But yeah, I mean, we've got a lot of time. We've got some time to see what's going on. We'll be able to see some preseason games, we'll be able to see what this team's got going on, but there's no reason to think that he's going to have that kind of thing. Cj Stroud also did not run the ball.

Speaker 1:

He was not a dual threat. He was not a dual threat quarterback. So you know, some of the things that you were able to see Jaden Daniels do outside of the pocket whether it was running or just creating time and willing Terry McLaurin to get open just by staying alive yeah, I mean those are things that CJ Stroud didn't necessarily have either.

Speaker 2:

I mean dude in Jaden Daniels ability to your point like I, just there's. There's one pass it was, it was in the playoff and he dropped it in a bucket to Terry McLaurin in the end zone and what he was able to do for scary Terry, it was just beautiful man. So again, I'm not trying to be a vibe killer on Jane Daniels, it's just I was burned so hard with CJ Stroud that it's like okay, what is this going to look like next year?

Speaker 1:

But, to your point, we're going to be able to kind of see how this offseason plays out. I'm going for him, are you? Yeah, absolutely yeah. He's all over my board. Man, I want Jaden Daniels.

Speaker 2:

Let's say, in a super flex league, because we have a lot of people that listen and watch this, John, that are in super flex leagues In a super flex league. Are you willing to take him back half a first early second? That's more than likely where you're going to have to take Jaden Daniels.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, I am, and you have to understand the risk that you're doing, that you're taking at that time. It's absolutely a risk because we've seen it recently, this past year, you know. So we've seen it happen, it can, it can absolutely happen. But I I don't know, man. I mean, this guy's got so much experience. We talked about the difference between him and anthony richardson richardson playing a year and maybe a half total of college football and jane daniels played five full fucking years of college football. So I think that makes a big difference. Man, he's not coming in, I don't see. I think he's less likely for a sophomore slump just because he's played so much damn football.

Speaker 2:

On this, please, but I believe he was the only guy, john, that used the VR Remember the virtual headset to where he was then doing this at 6 am and 5.30 am and 7 am, before he was even going to his prep or to his meetings and things like that, to where he's seeing. He turned up the game speed to like 1.5 or 2 times the speed, so he's having to read defenses in vr at a much higher rate. So it translated on the field and again I just thought that was such a freaking cool story because I've never, never, heard of such a thing and it really showed. So that was really cool shit that's the future of quarterback preparation.

Speaker 1:

I love that. I mean that because that's what they always talk about. It's the speed of the game and it's not the speed that everyone's faster necessarily. It's decision-making is faster. It's this kind of speed you have to make those decisions. So when he's using the VR and getting real time, you know time and a half on the speed and getting used to that. That's so cool. I mean I can see that being just really the future of training quarterbacks and getting them ready for the NFL at least. Yeah, super cool and it absolutely obviously paid off. Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, man, that is the rookie review review. Love that. And sadly it means we're coming to the end of the season. Our watch has ended. I want to bring the bell out. Let's just bring the bell out one time here so I can hear that one final time. All right, frankie, why don't you lay people out here? Tell them, what do we have coming up? When is it going to come out? When do they need to be?
