Week 1 is a Liar and Week 2 Breakdown: Week 1 Recap - News - Week 2 Analysis

Frank Laury & John Hickey Season 5 Episode 20

Send us a text

Fantasy football's opening week lived up to its reputation as the ultimate trickster, leaving managers everywhere questioning what's real and what's illusion. As we unpack the carnage and celebrate the victories of Week 1, one thing becomes abundantly clear – the landscape we thought we understood has already shifted dramatically.

Justin Herbert silenced doubters with an MVP-caliber performance, while Quentin Johnston transformed from last year's disappointment into a potential breakout star. Danny Dimes shocked everyone by scoring on every single drive, achieving something no quarterback in NFL history has managed before – including the all-time greats. These performances raise the critical question: are we witnessing legitimate breakouts or just Week 1 mirages?

The injury report already reads like a fantasy nightmare with George Kittle landing on IR, Xavier Worthy dislocating his shoulder, and Brock Purdy questionable for Week 2. These developments create ripple effects across lineups, elevating players like Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, and potentially making CMC even more valuable in the 49ers offense. Meanwhile, revenge games played out beautifully for Justin Fields and Aaron Rodgers, both looking rejuvenated in their new environments.

Looking ahead to Week 2, we've identified the key matchups to target and avoid. The Jaguars-Bengals contest promises fantasy fireworks with offensive stars on both sides facing vulnerable defenses. Hollywood Brown emerges as a must-start against Philadelphia, while the Rams defense threatens to completely shut down the Titans offense, making Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley risky plays despite their long-term potential.

Whether you're 1-0 or 0-1, remember that fantasy success requires patience, insight, and sometimes ignoring Week 1 outcomes entirely. Join us each week as we break down the matchups, analyze the trends, and help you separate the fantasy fool's gold from the genuine article. May the fantasy gods smile upon you this season!

Speaker 1:

All right, guys, week one is in the books. Here we're gonna talk a little bit about week one, give you those headlines from last week, we're gonna give you the news and notes, get you updated on all the injuries here, guys, and then we're gonna dive right into week two. All right, let's do it All right. All right, all right, Welcome to the show. This is the Frankly Fantasy Football Podcast. We are your hosts, Frankie and Johnny. Week one's in the books. Baby.

Speaker 2:

Week one is done, Shit John, what a crazy week, I know.

Speaker 1:

Hey, man, it's the Kyle Brandt thing. I get to say it once a year. Week one is a liar and I'm telling you it is a fucking liar, man. Okay, we had all these goddamn secondary tight ends, all these secondary Ben Skoranek scoring a touchdown. You know, I mean, come on, man, week one is a liar, but we'll break it down a little bit here, guys, we'll talk about it. How'd you do, man? How'd you end up? Did you do okay?

Speaker 2:

Oh child, it was a little bit of a rough one for me. You know, when you have some of the injuries that occurred, maybe like George Kittle going out pretty quickly yeah, he did score, but it's a bit tough. Drake London is a little bit banged up. Isaiah Pacheco looked like the shit. And then you also have you know RJ Harvey kind of underperforming. I mean it's tough so long story short. Great in one league, good in another dumpster fire in two others.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I had a dumpster fire or two out there, yeah, but otherwise, you know, most of the guys I had were pretty good. You and I called a lot, we called a lot, we called a lot of shots here. You know, so far this week and I know it's week one it's week one. We're not going to do our victory lap. We get it, we understand. But looking at the trends, looking at you know what some of these guys look like. That's what I was doing Mostly. It's like I want to see what these guys look like. Yeah, rj Harvey, he didn't do shit, but a guy you'll be able to get into your lineup. We have to be patient with some of these guys.

Speaker 1:

Guys, welcome to the show today. Guys, please don't forget, follow us on social media. It's so fun. Tiktok and Instagram are going ape shit. So much fun. Get on there, chat with us, argue with us, whatever you want to do, compliment us. You know we never get that. Wouldn't it be really nice one day to wake up and look at TikTok and not see somebody call you a cocksucker? That'd be wonderful. Either Then we're going to get into week two and we're going to look at some of the future headlines here, just some of the big games, the good matchups.

Speaker 1:

Just give you some little bits of information here and there. Going to be a lot more conversational this year, guys, and during the season here, week to week, we'll recap, we'll look forward, but it's going to be Frankie and I just kind of bullshitting and talking about some of these guys and some of these players that you need here. All right, so first off, frankie, let's talk about last week. I mean first of all, kickers. First thing on the show notes here Kickers can suck, suck, suck, suck.

Speaker 1:

Listen, guys, if you can be in a league. We did this in one of our leagues we got rid of kickers and defenses. I hate kickers and fantasy football because it's just so much you can't really plan for that. You're not digging deep and getting good analysis, you're just picking a kicker every single week and it's a waste of time on your waiver wire. It kills you, you know. The other thing I hate about kickers, frank, is when, like, it's the end of a hat and instead of you know kneeling or punting, they'll try a 65 yard field goal or something, and you're like, oh cool, here comes negative two points out of my kicker.

Speaker 2:

Awesome, unless you're Chris Boswell, who apparently is the new Justin Tucker. I mean, what's going on there?

Speaker 1:

You know what I mean. I'm kidding man. Well, the Browns could use that guy. Okay, I'm in Cleveland. By the way, guys here, let me just give you a little taste. Look backdrop, we are in cleveland coming to you, live from cleveland, ohio. I've got the brown stadium right behind me. Here, guys, feeling good, it feels like home, it just feels right. But I'll tell you what when I came into town last night, I was really hoping to see that motherfucker strung up outside. Man, because that cleveland kicker.

Speaker 1:

Terrible. First of all, what's his name? Schmidt schmidt, andre, schmidt, andre, shit, yeah, there's no vowels in his name. I don't trust any.

Speaker 2:

Any guy that has zero vowels, it's just a Y, it's kind of it's like one of those that are like get out of here.

Speaker 1:

No, I don't care. I don't know what nationality it is, but I don't like it. Get out of here.

Speaker 2:

He's gone Get us another Jake Moody cut. I mean he's gone right, missed two field goals. You're out for San Fran Young Wake. Who, who?

Speaker 1:

Are they getting rid of him?

Speaker 2:

I mean John. They're bringing in another player just to be safe man, an expatriates kicker they brought in.

Speaker 1:

So we'll see, man, I don't know. Anyway, the kickers, they were just absolute heartbreakers for everybody. How about this Frankie Justin Herbert? Breakers for everybody. How about this frankie justin herbert? I'm going to shout out to all of the people that made fun of us for drafting justin herbert and especially you, it's me, because I said justin herbert has mvp capabilities this year. He really does guess what? Screw you guys. He looked awesome. He looked like an mvp out there. Man totally didn't. How about quentin johnston? Whoa, are you kidding me here?

Speaker 2:

All right, what are we doing, john? Is he the Sammy Watkins? Like? This is what we were talking about. Okay, guys, remember flashback viewers, listeners Do you remember a few years back to where Sammy Watkins popped off on back-to-back week one, week two and then just fucking nosedive, like is this what's going to?

Speaker 2:

happen. You know, like he went from John. He went from dropping every fucking ball last year to then having what like six, seven receptions, 70-plus yards and two tuds. It's crazy, on a convoluted receiver room with Keenan Allen, trey Harris and Laddie I mean it's crazy. I mean what do we do with this guy? But and Laddie, I mean it's crazy, I mean what do we do?

Speaker 1:

with this guy. But, Frank, he looked like a number one receiver. He looked awesome. I couldn't believe. I had to double check that that was his number to make sure. I swear to God he looked really good. Maybe Every year, guys, if you're new to fantasy football, there's always somebody who pops off in week one. Yep, Everybody empties the coffers and goes to try to pick them up on the waiver wire and they don't do anything the rest of the year. Is it Ben Skoranek this week or this? You know, is that? Is that who we're looking at? Is it Hollywood Brown? Is it Quentin Johnston? I don't know, man, I don't know. Hey, all I know is Quentin Johnston, pick his ass up. I know your waivers have already run. You've got to pick this guy up Two touchdowns. Justin Herbert seems to be his favorite target. But, Herbert, what great. I mean you your call with Keenan Allen.

Speaker 2:

I was all over. Keenan Allen man, I mean, where you could draft him to, he was free, he was free. And now he is a, dare I say, and I get it overreaction week one. It's like panic or not, like whatever. I don't think he's an overreaction, I think Keenan Allen's here to stay man and I think he is a absolute flex immediately automatic start until until we see otherwise well, we'll check back in next week to see if week one's a liar, but uh, it could be all right.

Speaker 1:

Well, here's one. Cmc. Welcome back, baby, welcome back. You know they. They scared the shit out of us. What was that? Three days before kickoff, you know cmc's calf and we're all just like, oh my god, are you kidding me? Are we doing this again for real here? We go here, we go, here we go. Now. Cmc's the man man I mean. Yeah, he may have, you know, he's gonna have soft tissue issues. He's a running back. That's just gonna happen to happen. But he looked great, he's fantastic. But John Robinson, oh.

Speaker 2:

Oh, oh, oh oh.

Speaker 1:

Does he look like the one-on-one next year already? Oh my God.

Speaker 2:

It's dude. You could totally make a case, that's for sure.

Speaker 1:

It's week one, though. It's week one it Danny Dimes. Come on, baby, let's go. Is Week 1 a liar or is this a good fit system for Danny Dimes?

Speaker 2:

I'll tell you what Week 1 is a liar, but this is also a good fit. Two things can be right at the same time. This is also a good fit for Danny Dimes Now to bring us all back down to reality. The Miami Dolphins are in complete disarray, so there's a lot of shit going on from that perspective. But the thing is Danny Dimes is playing with John outside of Malik Neighbors the best assets around him that he's ever had, and it's not even close, from the offensive line to Michael Pittman Jr, to Tyler Warren, to Jonathan Taylor in the backfield. Eventually, josh Downs is going to be healthy. Alec Pierce was getting involved. I mean, dude, these guys were very solid defensive play.

Speaker 2:

I mean, john, they were excellent. And the craziest shit is, danny Dimes did something no one in NFL history has ever done before, including Peyton Manning, tom Brady, joe Montana, etc. Guys, he scored on every single drive for the entirety of the game.

Speaker 1:

Seven of them, right? What the fuck is that? Seven scoring drives out of Danny Dimes what? And not only that to all of you Jt owners out there. I'm so sorry. I'm sitting there with my girlfriend. She's got jt because she's dating me. Obviously yeah, and I looked at her. I said it's okay. It's okay. Danny dimes vultured two touchdowns from jonathan taylor and that's gonna happen. If it's first and goal on the one, they're gonna run Danny Dimes man and he's gonna have some rushing touchdowns it's like you go from Anthony Richardson to where.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, you know he's gonna run it into Danny Dimes and maybe not. Oh, yep, here we go.

Speaker 1:

Yep, danny Dimes too you know what I mean. I don't know how many I'm not. I don't even want to look up Anthony Richardson's stats from last year, because it's just not worth my time. Wouldn't it be funny if he's already tied his rushing touchdowns for the year? Well, he's probably tied his completions.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, for the whole season last year, the whole season.

Speaker 1:

I think he only needed like nine. Yeah, seriously Unbelievable. Hey, hats off to the colts man, hats off to that organization. Great start to the season. You don't see that out of them all the time. Uh, what about? All right, two, two other quarterbacks. Huge storyline from last week. Huge revenge game, double revenge game. Everybody talked about the aaron rogers revenge game with the jets. What about justin fields? Revenge, revenge achieved. Okay, revenge game achieved for both of those guys, even though the Jets lost Justin Fields. I'm going to start with him. He looked great. I'm sorry, he looked great, amazing. Where was this guy? Where was this guy before? You know, looked fantastic. He's in simpatico with Garrett Wilson, peppering Garrett Wilson with targets. Absolutely love it. Running backs look good out of the backfield too. Little Braylon, allen, brees Hall, brees Hall, brees Hall looks good. Guys, he looks good. Don't buy the hype. He's going to be just fine. He's playing his ass off. He's playing for a contract, guys.

Speaker 1:

It's almost like John. We called that or we said that. You know that, maybe Brees Hall too, didn't you? I?

Speaker 2:

took a bunch of I'll tell you what else we took a bunch of shit for was saying Garrett Wilson was a true receiver one. And I'll tell you what, guys, because Justin Fields isn't going to throw the ball accurately because of all this stuff. Listen, it goes back and I know it's crazy, but there's continuity and that is a big deal. When you have a quarterback that understands the route tree and how that receiver is going to be when he's running those particular routes, and just the ins and outs of his breaks, that's huge, guys. And I'm going back to the Buckeye days you have to remember, even though it's been a few years, when you get out there and you start practicing every day again together, it's like it never happened, it's like you guys never left. And so now we're seeing that.

Speaker 2:

And, guys, that wasn't against a shit defense, that was against Jalen Ramsey, tj Watt, the Steelers that are foaming at the mouth ready to rip someone's face off, and I mean, he's doing that in front of them. And I loved seeing Jalen Ramsey and Gary Wilson getting in each other's shit a little bit. And, dare I say Jalen Ramsey and Gary Wilson getting in each other's shit a little bit and, dare I say Jalen Ramsey backed it up. I mean, I've never seen a guy who can talk so much shit and then can immediately back it up 100%. And what I mean by that is that last play of the game.

Speaker 1:

That pop Watching some of the new faces and new places on defense make their mark. Jalen Ramsey was like boom bitch, that's why I'm here. Micah Parsons same thing. It was just like that's why he's here. You know, I mean, it was so good to see that in the new faces and new places. Justin Fields bald 48 yards rushing, two touchdowns. Guys, he's going to be a superstar in your super flex, are you?

Speaker 2:

kidding me.

Speaker 1:

Come on, aaron Rodgers, let's give it to him. I'm sorry, aaron Rodgers played great. You can love him or hate him, for multitudes of reasons. Jump into the box of hate for Aaron Rodgers, pick yours out and whatever it is, but the guy played great. I mean, he looked excellent. He can't move at all, so he's going to have to stay upright. But man, he the accuracy, some of the throws he was making.

Speaker 2:

The zip on that ball is just fantastic. It looked like vintage Aaron Rodgers again, man. It did and what was cool we were talking about it was what he ended up saying. It was like it was great to be able to prove the haters wrong or something along those lines. I'm paraphrasing but it was great to show that I still got. It is what it was, and it was just so freaking cool man, aaron Rodgers. Hats off to you. To your point, man. Whether you love him or hate him, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1:

The dude's a baller yeah, and you can start the tight ends. You can start the receivers. I mean, calvin Austin could be a sneaky start for you if you're in some injury pain. So, yeah, it brings life to these guys and watch he and DK will get better. Dk will get better with him for sure.

Speaker 1:

One other thing I saw a lot this week is that a lot of the number one receivers it looked like the defense has decided to shut these guys down. Yeah, you know, and that's why you saw so many quarterbacks running too. Yeah, look at Jalen hurts. You know how many open lanes he had. We saw from Baker Mayfield. We saw from baker mayfield. We saw from patrick mahomes, like these guys would just stop and run the ball. Uh, herbert, the back there, the defensive backfields would lock the receivers down. You saw that joe burrow, jamar chase, t higgins killed you this week, guys, but it opened it up for other people. You know a lot of tight ends scored because of that. So I think you're gonna, you're gonna see defenses shift now account for the quarterback because they don't want that happening. So, so you'll see. You know wide receivers getting open and creating more separation. You know, coming up here for sure.

Speaker 1:

All right, frankie. Let's get to the news, baby. All right, let's do a couple of injuries here, guys, this is important here. George Kittle today placed on IR with a hamstring injury. So he's going to be out at least four weeks. Guys, it sucks that that whole 49er offense is just getting decimated. I'm not done with this list either in the injuries, by the way, but he was getting peppered. It was the George Kittle show, so it's sad to see him go down. But one thing I will say we've got Juwan Jennings, ricky Pearsall those guys, without Kittle, will be peppered with targets big time.

Speaker 1:

Now who's going to be throwing on the ball, frankie? Because Brock Purdy is not probably going to be playing this week, in week two. It doesn't look good, guys. Nothing's for sure yet You're going to have to watch practice. He's got a left shoulder injury and a toe injury. We didn't know it. He never left the game. It was after the game that was discussed Questionable to play this week. Mac Jones is the backup. All right, look at this, frankie, real quick. Mac Jones is the starting quarterback for the 49ers. Does that change anything you're doing or is doing, or is it just by default? You start Pearsall, jennings and CMC yeah it's the latter and guys.

Speaker 2:

the reason for that is because somebody needs to make a play. Those are the guys that are going to make a play. But the other key call out is remember when Trevor Lawrence got hurt with the Jaguars and we saw Mac Jones come in and actually still keep the offense moving forward in a good way. Kyle Shanahan is going to set him up for success. But what this does do, guys, my personal opinion. I don't even know if it's how this is even possible, but CMC now becomes a top three back. I really believe that, and guys and I'm talking for daily fantasy here. So if you're choosing on daily fantasy, it truly might be worth you paying that premium. Maybe it's $7,200 or whatever that is. From that standpoint, $69,000, $64,000, $74,000, whatever that is, it's probably worth paying that premium, man.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean, frank, you're 100% right. I mean, look at this week's schedule. The 49ers are playing at New Orleans, they're playing at the Saints. They're going to run all over him, man. It's going to be the CMC show. Yeah, start his ass up. Grab him in daily too. It's going to be beautiful. Juwan Jennings we did talk about him a little bit. He hurt his shoulder. Tests are totally clean on it so he could play. If I'm choosing between the two, it's going to be Ricky Pearsall, juwan Jennings. He was coming in banged up anyway. So you know he's starting to stack up a few issues here, but apparently he should be good to go for this week as well.

Speaker 1:

Head over to Green Bay. Here. Matthew Golden has an ankle injury, limited practice, keep an eye on him. But the other thing we did discover is Jaden Reed is the one for Jordan Love here. Man, jaden Reed, listen, guys, I've got him in two leagues. I've got the Jordan Love, jaden Reed stack. I'm sorry, but Jaden Reed is going to be a nightmare for you this year, guys. He's kind of going to be a roster, just kind of clogged for you. But if you've got him, you're just going to have to watch.

Speaker 1:

I was hoping they would put him on IR because I thought he was going to miss last week. They didn't, but what's going to happen is he's going to be questionable each and every week for the foreseeable future, but when he plays, he's the one. He played great. I mean, the guy balled out and is clearly the number one target for Jordan Love. So he's dealing with a foot injury same injury. This isn't anything new. It's an actual fracture in his foot, but it's all about managing the pain. So he didn't practice.

Speaker 1:

You're going to have to keep an eye on him, but if he does play in my mind, based on what he did last year coming in, it's the same injury. It hasn't been re-aggravated or anything I'm going to start him. If he's active, I'm starting him, and that's the bottom line. I'm not going to get cute with Matthew Golden. I want to see where the targets are going and right now they're all going to Jaden Reed, so I'm going to fire him up. Drake, london, frankie, this one's rough for you, your champion, your champion here. Receiver left the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury. Good news today. It's not serious. He's day-to-day. He could play this week. So monitor his status and the reason why you got to monitor guys.

Speaker 1:

15 goddamn targets last week, frank 15 targets yeah, didn't do a lot with it, it was like 50 yards, but either way, 15 targets. That's what I want to see. I want to see who's getting targeted. The production will eventually come, so watch the targets. That's what I'm chasing here, guys. Evan, ingram, frankie is that your champion too? That's my tight end champion.

Speaker 1:

Oh man, you have two champions showing up on the injury report this year. Oh man, champion, check in early. Frank Evan Ingram left the game with a calf in a calf strain. Oh, that's got cmc written all over it. He is expected to miss a few weeks. So you're going to be without evan ingram here for a few weeks, guys. So, uh, look at the waiver wire and get a fill-in for you.

Speaker 1:

Xavier worthy, this one screwed me big time on. Collided with travis kelsey on his third snap. Excellent, dislocated his shoulder. This is, this is tricky, guys. This one could go either way. So you're going to have to watch and see what happens here. But it's a fickle injury and there's a lot of of re-injuring on this and re-aggravating of these shoulders like this. If he has surgery, it could lead to a season injuries and ending surgery. They're trying not to do that. They're getting other opinions. Best case scenario is one to two weeks. So it's all about. It's a huge range of outcomes here. For, say, if you're worthy, he could be back in one to two weeks. He could be gone for the season. So we're just going to have to see what happens. Monitor that. Uh, but Hollywood Brown man, I mean he's a must own. Is he a must start at this must start?

Speaker 2:

He's a must start at this must start. He's a must start, man, john. What's crazy to just to think about this. Guys so a couple, a couple of guys that I really pay attention to had been really talk with me about the Miami team as a whole. You'll get where I'm going with this.

Speaker 2:

If Tyreek Hill continues to be a potential problem, which again there's their TMZs coming out and saying that there's a domestic violence thing kind of now happening with his ex-wife, all this shit, apparently they said, do not be surprised if Tyreek Hill does not get traded, gets cut, because he's in one of his last years of his contract and the chiefs pick him up. All I'm saying is if that happens it could be blockbuster, huge for that of tyree kill and for that of the chiefs, assuming he plays and everything goes okay with the domestic stuff. But absolutely crazy and fascinating because right where she writes isn't coming back for for quite a few more weeks. I mean, xavier, worthy john, if it is the case of a labrum issue or something along those lines, he's out, and so then what do you do? Hollywood brown? Sure, it was fine, but man, there's a bunch of different things kind of going on here to where? What if we do see something crazy like that, if it's irie kill well he he might end up.

Speaker 1:

If he goes to the chiefs, he might end up scoring more touchdowns than he has children this year.

Speaker 2:

Which would be great, because last year that wasn't the case. Okay, last year he was a breeder and not a feeder to the fantasy gods.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so let me tell you that's the quote of the week right there. Frankie, yeah, he had five kids, I believe, and three touchdowns last year.

Speaker 2:

That's right, something like that, yeah.

Speaker 1:

I always try to outpace my. I have four children, so you know I do the same thing. I got to have five tutties around me, that's right, all right, moving on here.

Speaker 1:

man, last injury here Brock Bowers. I know that kind of scared the shit out of everybody there. Tweaked his knee. It was kept out of the game. I mean of the game. I mean guy balled out 103 yards, he looked great. I mean he's, he's the brock powers. I. I'm sorry I was nervous about, about brock bowers. I'm gonna run my laps when I'm right, but I'm also gonna admit when I'm wrong. Brock bowers still looks like that guy. I'm sorry. Yeah, I don't see, uh, I don't see a sam laporta issue happening here. If he's healthy, so uh. But uh, status unclear at the time. Looks like he should be okay. It seems precautionary. But that's kind of coach speak. Right now we don't have a full, uh you know diagnosis here of what's going on. But if brock bowers is out, frankie, michael mayer, fire him up. You gotta play him right. Fire him up if he should be played out.

Speaker 2:

He would be a stud. Guys, you forget who michael mayer is, superstar tight end from notre dame, who they drafted to be the guy and then it just it fizzled out. So, guys, knowing that he's a plug and play with brock brock bowers, if he is out, please pick him up if you're a bowers holder.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, uh, russell wilson for the moment. Frankie, he is still the qb1 for dot, dot For now.

Speaker 2:

Okay, he's holding on by that much, by like this just a smidge, yeah, just a smidge.

Speaker 1:

Russ didn't cook. Russ didn't cook. Russ did not look good. He had one of the worst games. I think it might have been the worst game of his career as far as passing completion percentage. It was rough. Dude. Jackson Dart is a mustache.

Speaker 2:

Definitely.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, if you're in a super flex. I'm sure he's probably already drafted or a backup in a super flex. But if you've got Malik neighbors, stash Jackson Dart. If you can afford to do that on your bench, stash him, because this guy's going to be starting here in a few weeks. I don't think there's any question about it. Here guys Kendrick Bourne unimportant signing with the 49ers. Okay, tank Bigsby this one's kind of interesting Frank. He traded to the Eagles this week. It's got to be because Will Shipley's hurt you know or not, will Shipley. I'm sorry.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you're right, will Shipley, yeah.

Speaker 1:

You know he's hurt. He was the clear backup. He got some play. He was running the ball, he had some carries as well. Man, he must be out, because you don't trade for tank Bixby and say what they say they're going to have him punt return.

Speaker 2:

He's not a kick returner guy.

Speaker 1:

Like we're talking right. All right, so he's going to be a backup, you're not really going to do much with tank Bixby, but what this does do, guys, basil Tootin is a must-own player. I'm not saying to throw him out there and start him, let's see what happens here. But, guys, we talked about this, another episode sponsored by Liam Cohen. Here we go. We can't get away from talking about him, man, that's right. But we said he went out and he found his Bucky Irving because this dude is literally Bucky Irving, cloned. And what do they do? They ship Tank Bigsby out. Man. So you know, this could be one of those guys. Pick him up, if he's not owned, sit on, basil Tootin, this could be one of those guys that could win you your league. It may take six weeks, I don't know, but hang on to him. Also, travis, etienne, frankie, ooh, must start, must start, must start RB to put him in Must start especially in a PPR.

Speaker 1:

If he's in a PPR, I don't want you thinking about it until further notice. Put him in there and leave it, set it and forget it.

Speaker 2:

It's going to be great man. Hey, I got a hootin' for some tootin' and I'm ready to fire up ETN. Baby, it's going to be a good time with the Jags.

Speaker 1:

Please clip that hootin' for a toot. I love that. All right, that is the news, guys. Hey, by the way, football is back baby and underdog is the best place to make picks and win money all season long Playing underdog. It's super easy, guys Just pick whether your favorite players are going to go higher or lower on certain stats like touchdowns, receiving yards, interceptions and so much more. Frankie, you got to pick them for us this week, my friend Johnny this week.

Speaker 2:

Okay, on Underdog, I'll tell you what I'm looking at a few games here.

Speaker 2:

The first is the Washington Commanders at that of the Green Bay Packers and let me tell you I got a guy that I'm circling, nice and big, looking at his higher and lower, and it's Scary Terry Guys right now, his reception higher or lower, and it's Scary Terry Guys right now his reception higher or lower is at 55.5 yards and yes, I know he had a bad game last game, but let me tell you I'm taking I'm smashing that higher because he has hit 55.5 yards four out of the last five weeks that he has played. We're targeting that higher and we're going to pair him with that of Jalen Hurts. Guys, jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles talking about that Super Bowl matchup against the Chiefs. I'll tell you what I'm loving what he's doing from a rushing attack, and I think everybody else is too. So we're looking at his higher being that of 41 and a half yards. So, guys, we're going to pair those two together and we're going to be targeting that of Scary Terry higher than 55 and Jalen Hurts higher than 41 and a half rushing yards.

Now let's let's get to a week ahead here. Let's look at week two. This is this is what we want, man. All right. Week two, week one's a liar. Let's just figure out what the hell we're gonna do here, man. Let's look at a couple of headlines here. First of all, the super bowl rematch this week. Frankie eagles at chiefs. What are we looking at? Some of the anything standing out to you here. I mean, we talked about hollywood brown. Are we firing hollywood brown up in this matchup, guys.

Speaker 2:

He's a must start and it's not now, let me say he's a must start. And it's not now, let me say he's a must start based on the team dynamic of the Chiefs, where there's no receivers at this point in time. But it's a tough matchup Like let me be crystal clear Cooper to Gene Quentin Mitchell. These guys are very good from the cornerback play perspective, so you're going to have to kind of play one over the other, meaning do you risk kind of starting him knowing that there's nobody else on the Chiefs at this point in time from a receiver perspective, or do you sit him because they're going to be keying in on him because there is nobody else? And so for me, man, I'm firing up Hollywood Brown. I think what we saw from the sheer amount of targets alone, he's going to get his. You'd be happy if he got you 10 points and I think from a flex standpoint that's totally viable.

Speaker 2:

Now, john, the other guy that I'm circling that's really interesting for the Chiefs guys and he's dirt cheap is that of a Juju Smith-Schuster. We're talking about a guy who's proved it on multiple teams. He comes into the Chiefs, they re-sign him to another one-year deal and what we saw I mean guys last week in week one, he did not look that bad. Even looking at what Juju did last week on Friday against that of the Chargers, which has a really good defense, I mean, hey, he put up five receptions for 55 yards.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I know that's not Hollywood Brown, who was putting up 10 receptions for 99, but what that tells me is Juju Smith-Schuster guys is somebody who absolutely can be picked up and rostered and we need to see what happens from this point in time. We could see him be putting up these kind of stats and in a 14 or 16 team league that might be gold right now with all these injuries. So keep Juju in the back of your mind. If he's on the waiver and you can get to Sunday at that point in time and he's still there, he might be worth a late time pickup.

Speaker 1:

All right, I love it. What do we do? What do we do with Pacheco here, man? Man, this is difficult. It's tough. It's a good defense, it's a great defense. I don't feel good about putting Pacheco out there. I'm big on the guy. I still think he's good, but he didn't look good last week. Man, it may take a little more time for him. Do you start any of those running packs?

Speaker 2:

I'm not starting any of them. And I have Pacheco in one league and I need to start him and I'm not starting him. Guys, I'm actually starting Jabante Williams over Isaiah Pacheco. To put that in perspective.

Speaker 1:

There's other moves Travis Etienne over Pacheco, travis Etienne over Pacheco over Petraeco, travis Etienne over Petraeco, absolutely. So yeah, I mean we'll talk about some other options here. All right, let's move on here. I mean we talked about Rodgers, but I mean, is he going to keep cooking this week? Man, he's hosting the Seahawks, yeah, I mean. So we're starting Rodgers in a 12th on a one quarterback league. You're throwing them out there, frank.

Speaker 2:

In a one quarterback league. I am starting Aaron Rodgers guys, and here's the deal. Looking at the other teams, just kind of thinking about who I would actually start him over, Definitely starting him over Tua, Definitely starting him over Drake May. I'm starting him over Mac Jones for the 49ers. I'm starting him over Spencer Rattler. I'm starting him over Trevor Lawrence. I'm starting him over Flacco. I'm probably starting him over Caleb Williams against that of the Lions. Yeah, I mean John, there's a laundry list Bryce Young, I mean I'm actually starting him over Danny Dimes this week Right Just because of the matchup.

Speaker 2:

Right when we look at Danny Dimes playing that of the Broncos, that is not a great matchup at all. And so yes, man, to your point.

Speaker 1:

Yeah you can totally start Aaron Rodgers in a 12-team league. Where's your limit? Let's find your limit here. Okay, your limit's going to be Bo Nix in Indy or Aaron Rodgers, Bo Nix. I'm sorry Bo Nix. I'm willing to give him another week.

Speaker 2:

I'm willing to give Bo Nix another week. I get it, guys. That was a tough start. That was let's just be honest with ourselves. It's tough, johnny. Both of us have Bo Nix he's my champion. Yep, he's your champion.

Speaker 1:

And it was a rough start.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's going to get better, it's totally going to get better, and I you know Bears-Lions, the Ben Johnson Bowl.

Speaker 1:

Let's go this week. That's going to be good, but man, is this a trap?

Speaker 2:

game. I feel this.

Speaker 1:

This is terrifying In Detroit, oh, it's in Detroit. It's in Detroit. Okay, all right, we saw the Bears. All right, the Bears gave us hope. The Bears gave us light. They did. First half Bears last, you know, gave us hope. Quarter and a half, yeah, first quarter and a half, I guess. Okay, so there is hope though. Okay, fantasy guys can produce for you on the bears offense. We saw that Detroit man. You and I said it's going to be a slow start with these both coordinators leaving. You're going to have this guys, but wow, that was a really slow start. I mean, I'm concerned. That just is Jared Goff. Is this a Sam Darnold effect of tying him with the coordinator? And I just don't know. But I mean Ben Johnson leaving Jared Goff looked terrible. I'm sorry he looked awful.

Speaker 2:

Johnson leaving. Jared Goff looked terrible. I'm sorry, jared Goff looked awful. And the other thing is he's played for two incredible, incredible offensive minds with Sean McVay and Ben Johnson, and so now you know he's gone. And the other thing that's extremely concerning is Jameer Gibbs from a rushing perspective. I mean, john, he didn't even eclipse 25 yards rushing, guys. Let me, let me re-say that, because I don't know if it hit home jameer gibbs didn't even hit 25 yards rushing, but then he has 10 receptions for fucking what 30 yards. I mean, seriously, it was, it was, it was, it was wild man. And so for me, I am a little bit nervous about this game because it's totally a trap game for the Lions. 100%. It's a divisional rivalry. They hate each other. Lions just got beat up by the Packers. But in addition to this, jalen Johnson, for the Bears, did not play against the Vikings, and that's their superstar, that's their cornerback, who's a megastar.

Speaker 1:

Locked down corner.

Speaker 2:

Locked down and Amin Ra didn't play that well last game. And so for me, man, now you're telling me Jalen Johnson might be playing Predominantly, he'll probably be shadowing either Amin Ra or he might be passing it off and going Jamison Williams. Either way, it's not great. Sam Laporta is going to have a much tougher matchup against Edmonds and the linebacking core here. This is really kind of an interesting game, because I mean, it's going to be either defensive, like annihilation on both ends, or somebody's going to break through, and I'm not sure, honestly, man, who it's going to be.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's a little scary for the lions. I mean, you're not, you're not not going to start these guys, that's right, you have, I mean you're starting amin rah. You're starting jameer gibbs. You know, are you starting jamo? I mean, that's an op, that's a flex option, so are you going to try to sit jamo, or will jamo be the one who actually benefits from?

Speaker 2:

this let me, let me put it like this I'm starting J-Mo over Calvin Ridley this week. Oh yeah, you know what I mean. So, thinking about it from a matchup-based perspective, knowing the tiers, I'm starting J-Mo over Jawan Jennings. There's certain guys in the flex that I'm willing to start J-Mo over. So, yeah, I'm probably leaning to starting J-Mo this week in the flex that I'm willing to start JMO over.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, I'm probably leaning to starting JMO this week in the flex. Sam Laporta, are you looking for another option? I mean, there's other tight ends here who are involved.

Speaker 2:

I mean there are Juwan Johnson, Harold Fanning Jr, right, you go down the line. There's a lot of like studs that are still out there.

Speaker 1:

Juwan Johnson was the. He was the target leader on the Saints target leader on the. Saints. He was the number one receiver on the Saints this week. Pretty crazy. Yeah, I'm with you, man. Anything else on the Bears-Lions here? No, I think this is going to be the fantasy game of the week. This next one here, guys and I know it sounds super, super weird Jacksonville at Cincinnati, guys.

Speaker 1:

I think, this is going to be the fun fantasy game based on what we saw last week with the jacksonville jaguars. Obviously, liam cohen's footprints all over this and you can see it immediately. This team looks extremely different than what they've always looked like, with the same goddamn players too. That's what's hilarious. I I think this is going to be a massive shootout. I think it's going to be awesome. Their defense is not good. No, cincinnati's defense is not good. Good, and they all have stars all over the field. So I think this is one of those games. Are we starting everybody on these teams? Man, pretty much Fire them up across the board, guys.

Speaker 2:

Seriously, this is it. This is the game that I think, john, I'm with you that it's just going to be fantasy beluso baby, I think so too.

Speaker 1:

Trevor lawrence startable piece in a one quarterback league this week, right, yeah, totally totally could be.

Speaker 2:

Now I'm not starting him over, aaron rogers, that was. That was my next question, like where?

Speaker 1:

is he on the line here? So okay, yes, all right, you got him below. Aaron rogers. I like that. Uh, what about, uh, the giants here, frankie? I? I mean, are we fading the giants at the cowboys? We talked a lot of shit about the cowboys, but I mean they kind of came out, even though they lost that game. They came out and they showed us that, oh shit, these guys can play. There's going to be some value out of this team. What are we doing with the giants at dallas?

Speaker 2:

dude, I'm absolutely fading them, guys. The first things first. There's no rushing game right now. There's none, like we don't know what's going on with tyron tracy, we don't know what's going on with cam scataboo, like it's in complete disarray. But it's also it could be due to the fact that the quarterback play was just so shit that they were just like whatever. You know what I mean, I mean. And so it meaning the defense was like whatever.

Speaker 2:

We're just going to key in on the rushing because we're, hey, we're going to play man to man on the outside, Um, but for me, man, I think the only guy is Malik neighbors, and then that's it. That's totally it. But from the perspective of the Cowboys even though I said I'm starting Javante Williams this is not a good matchup either. Guys, that front four for the Giants is incredible. After that it gets a little sketch. I'm not going to lie, but that front four is absolutely fabulous. But, man, I mean seeing how well, seriously like, if you think back, I know it feels like forever ago, but that Thursday night game with the Dallas Cowboys and the Eagles, guys, it was an eight and a half point spread. Okay, and we're talking Cowboys were in position to win that shit and we're talking Javante Williams, two tuds and yes, I get it Jalen Carter spit, which was crazy by the way.

Speaker 1:

We didn't even talk about it. We didn't even talk about the spit gate. I mean, give me a spit gate.

Speaker 2:

I mean jalen carter shouldn't be playing this week, right? I mean he's got, he's got to get suspended for something. I don't think there'll be a suspension.

Speaker 1:

It'll be a heavy, fine, because it just a little pat on the ass shield.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, yeah, it'll be a heavy crazy you know, I mean, that was like a wild like that, was like that was thick, like that first of all.

Speaker 1:

Of all, I want to say something a little controversial, Let me put. I'm a conspiracy theory guy.

Speaker 2:

Everybody knows that I did it before.

Speaker 1:

It was cool, by the way, guys For sure, yeah, but I'm telling you, man, that whole game, the Dallas Philadelphia game that had Vegas's fingerprints, all over it. I'm not kidding. It just looked like, oh wait, a second Let. I'm not kidding, it just looked like, oh wait, a second. Let's fuck with the spread a little bit here, guys. Let's mess with the line a little bit and I'm going to have the best player on the defense getting jetted in the first play of the game, not even before the first play Not even after the kickoff, before the first play Bananas.

Speaker 1:

Then you had the lightning delay for an hour and a half. Those guys are in there, frankie. They have their clothes off. They're eating. Uncrustables is what they reported.

Speaker 2:

I looked at it.

Speaker 1:

I'm like is this real life right now? They're seriously saying these grown men are eating Uncrustables in there. I'm like they're not going to score again if they come out of the locker room. Zero it was, 44 points is what the over-under was, and that's where it was when the rain delay happened, the lightning delay. They never scored another point to hit that 47 over. It was crazy. It looked so dirty to me, even though I know that's not the case. They can't control the lighting and all the but dude, it looked bad, it looked weird, but that was not.

Speaker 2:

It was crazy and to your like. All I'm saying is is that I think that Dallas Cowboys are a better team than what people think they're going to be, and I just think this could be an absolute ass beating. You fire up everybody on the Cowboys man Ferguson, lamb, javante, even though it's not a great start. Again, I'm firing up Javante. You have to. After a two-tutty game over 50 yards, he was the bell cow. It wasn't even close. This could be exciting, man. I'm excited actually to see this game because I also want to see if Russell Wilson bounces back or not. I don't think he will and I'm ready to see Jackson dart.

Speaker 1:

I think this is going to be a game for pickings too, man. I think this is the time we're going to see. He had three catches on four targets. You know I want to see him get more involved, but I think this is a game. You can roll pickings out there and you, I agree and feel good about it. Yeah, yeah, all right, moving on here, frankie, start your Cardinals this week, huh, ooh, yeah. Marvelous Marv is back, baby, yeah, oh man, it's so good to see him playing well.

Speaker 1:

Kyler looked really good as well. It's nice to see him playing ball. James Conner looks great. By the way, james Conner might be the smash running back play of the week. This week at home against the Panthers, favored by six and a half man. I love that. Panthers looked rough, dude. You know, panthers looked real rough. Ted Arroyo McMillan again my champion. He saved it. He saved his day, had like 11, 12 points. But Bryce Young looked rough. That whole offense. Give it some time. I mean, they were terrible all year, last year for like 14 games and then they picked it up for like the last three or four games. You know, give him a little bit of time here, guys. Chuba, he'll be fine. Is this a rough matchup for those guys? He's starting them this week.

Speaker 2:

You know I'm going to start Chuba because you have to like. If you drafted Chuba where you're at, he probably is your RB2, you're firing him up. But here's the question. I have, john and this is what I keep going back and forth on Week one being a liar Trey Benson. Where is Trey Benson fitting?

Speaker 2:

When we talked about James Conner having a good game, the reason why he had a good game was because of the touchdown. If we actually start peeling back the layer a bit, we start looking at what Trey Benson did and, man, he actually outplayed James Conner. He ended up having eight carries for 69 yards. He averaged 8.6 yards a carry. Now again, playing everything fair. Most of it was off that one chunk play, but then you look in the receiving end, he still had a reception for six yards.

Speaker 2:

So are we actually going to start seeing more of this tandem play or was it truly based on that one ripaway run? And it's stuff that you and I had talked about earlier in the season? Actually, we actually had this as a would you rather Chuba Hubbard or James Conner? And a lot of us went towards James Conner and a few people on YouTube were like you guys are crazy, it's Chuba Hubbard. So this is going to be really fascinating man to see how Trey Benson continues to stay involved, or is it truly going to be James Conner, and so that's what I'm excited to look at moving forward.

Speaker 1:

I love it and this is going to take away from Conner. By any means Conner's going to do his. At this point in their career it's better to have at least a 70-30, 60-40 split. It's going to extend James Conner's lifetime this season and make him more efficient and more productive with the smaller amount of carries. Frankie Trey Benson had a 33% snap count.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so that's nice, it's a perfect call out. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And if you're a Conner owner, go get Trey Benson. If he's on the waiver wires, make sure you've got him, because Connor can miss a handful of games. It just can't happen. Trey Benson would be huge then immediately. If he's the starter, yeah, so pick him up, all right. Last one here, frank Rams at Titans. I believe in your notes here it says the Rams defense is going to do dirty, dirty things to the Titans. Explain yourself, man. Explain yourself. Dirty things, terrible things things that are unspeakable.

Speaker 2:

Guys, the Rams defense. I mean you look at what they they're creating something that's just incredible. I mean their front seven is lights out. Jared Verst looks like a freak of nature coming off the edge there. I mean they completely destroyed Houston when we look at hey, are we in the panic button? Are we, you know, okay on Houston? I'm okay on Houston because I truly think this was just one of those games that was like an eye-wide opening experience for the Houston Texans, meaning they just got their shit destroyed. From an offensive line perspective, they looked terrible CJ.

Speaker 2:

Stroud had no time to throw the ball, which affected Nico Collins and down the line, right. But what's interesting is now we're looking at them playing the Titans Guys. I mean, you've got a rookie at quarterback. I love Cam Ward, I think he's going to be great, but what we're seeing happen is their receivers aren't catching the ball. If you go back and look at the tape from that Titans game last week for week one, calvin Ridley multiple drops, others multiple drops left Cam Ward out to dry. I mean he ended up having negative 3.52 fantasy points. Cam Ward did. And so, guys?

Speaker 1:

they've got a brutal start, though this is not the way you want to start as a rookie at.

Speaker 1:

Denver in week one, and then week two you're going to LA for the Rams. I mean, it's just not what you want. So don't freak out about these guys. Guys, sit Pollard if you can Sit Pollard. Sit Ridley if you can, definitely. But hold on to them, it's going to be fine. The schedule opens up here, guys, it's Indy at home, then they go at Houston, then it's at Arizona, at Las Vegas, new England, indy. It opens up here. So there's going to be some nice games for Pollard and for Ridley for sure. So don't freak out. But this week freak out, don't start Totally.

Speaker 2:

John and one other call out too. When looking at the Rams, like just thinking about the, just solely looking at them alone, man, matt Stafford looked good. All those issues, all those issues in the back stuff that was going on 21 for 29, for 245 and a tud, that's fantastic let me say something else, though.

Speaker 1:

Matt stafford needs to stop doing something. He needs to stop murdering his goddamn receivers. I've never seen somebody lay guys out to dry so bad. Puka and dav Devontae. Devontae got fucking scorpioned. He was bent backwards. I thought he was dead Puka. I couldn't believe what I was watching. I'm like, oh my God, Puka just got smacked in the face. He's on the sideline blood streaming down his face. He's got a concussion.

Speaker 1:

I didn't think he was getting up, I didn't think he was getting up and then they both got back in the game. I didn't think either of those guys were coming back in the game. I thought it was just lights out for the Rams season, right then and there. But he's got to stop hanging these guys out to dry man. Oh smokes, I'm not running a skinny post with Matt Stafford throwing me the ball. You're not going to see me doing a slant across the middle.

Speaker 1:

It's like he's upset, it's want to slant across the middle he's upset, it's like he's upset like I got back issues, so are you, bitch, get ready to catch the ball?

Speaker 2:

welcome hey, I got some vicodin for you.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, exactly, you know you're ready here davante yeah take a perk while you're there you know what I mean. Like oh, he's screwing him up, man.

Speaker 2:

But how about puka? 10 receptions for 130 yards, absolutely dominant between him and davante. It's going to be fun. So, man, for me looking at this matchup, I'm firing up all those dude on the rams kyron williams should be a smash play and I'm sitting everybody for the titans absolutely.

Speaker 1:

I mean we. I faded my receivers for the rams for sure in the drafts because I was nervous about matt stafford. But if you've got those guys, as long as stafford's healthy, fire them up.

Speaker 2:

So just remember that for this coming year, we're going to be switching things up during the week, right? So we were regimented before and then we were like you know what's going to be most important to you guys, but what we thought is just more conversational. Let's dig into some of this stuff, let's get going on what the week two look ahead or week three look ahead is all this good information. So give us some feedback, let us know what you think. Do you like this format? Do you like how we're kind of positioning the week ahead and things of that nature? Because we want you guys to feel like you are empowered and rocking out for your coming weeks. And, in addition to this, every Tuesday or Wednesday I will be dropping a waiver wire look at, and then also Fridays with Frankie, so we're getting you ready for the weekend to come for the top five things you need to know. So keep in touch. Every week, guys, we're coming at you with top-of-the-line content.

Speaker 1:

Where is everybody going to be able to find your Tuesday waiver wire pickups and your Fridays with Frankie Frank?

Speaker 2:

where is this? I'm glad you asked Johnny Boy, when do?

Speaker 1:

we find these things.

Speaker 2:

It's going to be on the Talk of Ticks and it's also going to be on Instagram and for those who don't know what the Talk of Ticks are, it's, of course, tiktok and that of Instagram and Facebook guys, so don't miss out. Those will be pumping out. And again, we love the comments. We love even giving us a little pat on the ass like hey, I liked what you guys said there, bring it on, we love it. Thank you guys for tuning in for this season.

Speaker 1:

Good luck on your pick-ems this week, guys, and good luck on your week two match-ups. Let's go, can't wait. May the fantasy gods smile upon you. Bye.
